Counselling & listening services

The Counselling room the Swansea CISS centre, run by a team of dedicated staff and volunteers. Our cancer support centres and outreach service are run by a team of dedicated staff and volunteers, all of whom have backgrounds in counselling and/or health care.

We offer a free, confidential listening and counselling service to anyone whose life has been affected by cancer, whether patient, relative, carer or friend.

Appointments can be made to see a qualified counsellor at any time suitable for the client.

Self-help & Support groups

People in crises or new situations often feel the need to meet with others in a similar situation. CISS will organise group meetings as required, and have self-help groups meeting both at our centres and at other locations. The groups currently being arranged are as follows:-

Carers Group

Carers group is being held at our Neath Centre on the first Wednesday of every month between 10am-12 noon.

Patients Support Group

Our new Patient Support Group started on Monday 7th November between 2pm and 4pm at Llewellyn Hall Swansea Rd Penllergaer. We will now run it on the first Monday of every month at the same time, with December's date being December 5th.

Extensive cancer information

Factual, up-to-date information can make an enormous difference to anyone affected by cancer, including family and friends.

Such valuable advice can help to dispel some of the fears and myths about the disease, and is freely available from CISS.

Our centres offer a vast range of up-to-date printed information on all types of cancer and treatments. This includes work published by Cancerbacup, Macmillan, Cancer Research UK and Tenovus, to name but a few. Internet access to world-wide information is also freely available.

Telephone helplines

The CISS telephone helplines at Swansea, Neath & Carmarthenshire are available to anyone whose life has been affected by cancer.

They are 01792 655025,01639 642333 and 01267 679149 respectively.

On occasions when the lines are not manned an answerphone service is available - please be assured that your call will be returned as soon as possible, including weekends & Bank holidays

Room hire

 

We have conference room facilities for up to fifteen delegates and meeting room facilities for hire at our Swansea & Neath centres, to local organisations and businesses.

These are available at favourable rates (From £7.50)and offer flexibility and convenience, together with easy parking. Please contact our Manager, Ian Addison for further details.

Drop-in centres

CISS operates from two information/drop-in centres: a central office near to Swansea city centre and another in the Neath town centre. Both centres have access to a vast selection of printed information and offer counselling and therapy facilities. The Swansea centre is manned between the hours of 2:00pm and 4:00pm on Mondays Wednesdays & Fridays, whilst our centre in Neath is open on Mondays Tuesdays & Thursdays at the same times. Appointments may also be made outside these hours.

Free client parking is available at the Swansea centre and a bus service from the Swansea Quadrant Centre stops at Uplands Square directly opposite. Hourly street parking is available at Neath, with a long term parking facility at the nearby railway station. Bus and train services are within a 5 minute walk.

Outreach

Outreach Development Officers visit areas of socal deprivation and ethnic minority groups, taking the CISS services into the local communities. Industry and businesses also benefit from the service in their workplaces, by regular visits from CISS staff offering help and support to people who may be unaware of the service or who may have difficulty in accessing the drop-in centres.

Our Outreach Officers are available in the following locations to answer your enquiries and provide information:-

The Tenovus Bus

We are delighted to be working with Tenovus on their mobile chemotherapy unit.We will be offering counselling in Carmarthen on alternate Tuesdays.
