Leading Cancer Support in South West Wales

Cancer Information and Support Services (CISS) is a registered charity that was set up in 1993 to help those with cancer in South West Wales. The service was set up in response to the lack of support for cancer patients and carers and the non-availability of accurate up-to-date information about cancer in the West Glamorgan region at that time.

The first cancer information centre opened in Swansea early in 1994. Due to increasing demands for the services, a second centre was opened, with the aid of Lottery funding, in Neath in 2004. A recent successful lottery grant has allowed us to expand our service in these areas, and to extend our outreach service into Carmarthenshire, where no such support existed. During the first year, we have supported over twice the number of individuals that we had predicted needing our support.

The organisation is able to call upon the services of a number of trained staff and nearly 80 dedicated volunteers, most of whom have experience in counselling and/or backgrounds in health care. Nine experienced Trustees are responsible for the overall strategy of CISS.
