Cancer Information and Support Services

Cancer Information and Support Services (CISS) is a registered charity that was set up in May 1993 to help cancer patients in South West Wales Cancer Information and Support Services (CISS) is a registered charity that was set up in May 1993 to help cancer patients in South West Wales. The service was set up in response to the lack of support for cancer patients and carers and the non-availability of accurate up-to-date information about cancer in the West Glamorgan region at that time.

The first cancer information centre opened in Swansea in April 1994. Due to increasing demands for the services, a second centre was opened, with the aid of Lottery funding, in Neath in 2004.

Led by Director, Mary Lythgoe, the organisation is able to call upon the services of a number of trained staff and nearly 80 dedicated volunteers, all of who have experience in counselling and/or backgrounds in health care. An experienced Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall policies of CISS.

CISS is a founding member of Swansea Charity Partnership  www.swanseacharities.org.
